LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain School) carded a career-best 75 on Sunday to help the Bucknell women's golf team to a final-round 318 and an impressive sixth-place finish in a strong 14-team field at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
In four previous appearances in Penn State's fall tournament, the Bison had never posted a score lower than 325. This weekend they finished the 54-hole event in 314-318 - the second-round score tied the school record - and shot 966 overall. That total was just one shot behind UNC-Greensboro and Rollins College, who tied for fourth place.
Schlang's previous career-low round was 77, accomplished several times, most recently in the final round of the Big South Invitational last April. Her 5-over-par 75 was the fourth-best score of the day in a field of 79 players.
Also for Bucknell on Sunday, Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) shot 79, Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) 81, Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) 83 and Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) 87.
Batchelor's 54-hole total of 240 led the team and placed her in a tie for 18th place. Moran tied for 22nd with a 241, while Schlang (242) and Loughney (243) placed 24th and 26th, respectively.
Led by individual champion Evelyn Paik, host Penn State won the team title with a 54-hole score of 927. Washington and Yale tied for second, 10 shots off the pace.
The Bison will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday, when they host the Bucknell Bison Classic at the Bucknell Golf Club.
