Bucknell Volleyball Posts Sixth Win in a Row with 3-0 Victory over Wagner

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball team posted its sixth consecutive win as the Bison opened the Bucknell Invitational with a 3-0 win over Wagner on Friday evening in Davis Gym. The result improved the Orange and Blue to 7-5 on the season while the Seahawks dropped to 1-6.
Sophomore Emilie Hardinge (Darien, Conn./Darien) totaled a match-best 14 kills for Bucknell and hit .333 with just four errors in 30 attempts while also tallying two service aces. Junior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) followed with nine kills, two service aces and eight digs and senior Jennie Smith (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) tallied eight kills, hit .667 (8-0-12) and posted five blocks (2-3). Senior Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the Bison defense with 21 digs and sophomore setter Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) recorded a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs.
For Wagner, Brandy Barnett contributed nine kills and 12 digs and Sam O'Brien hit .462 with seven kills (7-1-13). Lydia Emnott and Gabi Hilk aided the offense with 17 assists and 11 assists, respectively, while Sirena Laburn chipped in 11 digs.
Bucknell took game one, 30-27, with the help of seven kills by Hardinge. Trailing by one point at 26-25, the Bison called timeout and responded by logging the next four points to climb in front, 29-26, and went on to close out the frame with a kill by Henderson.
Then in the second game, the Orange and Blue began with an offensive outburst as seven of the squad's first 10 points came from kills, putting Bucknell out in front by a comfortable 10-2 margin. The Seahawks managed to close the gap, knotting the score at 13; however, the Bison used a 17-3 run to take the game by the score of 30-16.
In game three, Emnott tied the score at 22 with a service ace, but a Wagner attack error returned the ball to Bucknell and gave the Orange and Blue a one-point lead. Henderson served the next seven points, and with two service aces, helped the Bison stretch the advantage to 29-23. Kerry Krohn broke up the string with a kill; however, Bucknell iced the game and the match on the next point with a kill by Hardinge.
The Bison continue play in the Bucknell Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 16, when the squad will take on Princeton at noon and La Salle at 4:30 p.m.
