Bucknell Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback Against Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Despite battling hard in game one, the Bucknell volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Temple in McGonigle Hall on Tuesday evening as the Owls took the games by the scores of 31-29, 30-15 and 30-20 to improve to 10-8 on the year. With the loss the Bison fell to 10-9 overall.
Junior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) had a team-high for Bucknell with 10 kills and hit .320, making just two errors in 25 attempts, while also contributing six digs. Senior Sarah Groman (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) added seven kills and two block assists, sophomore Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) totaled 11 assists, two service aces and seven digs and senior Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) chipped in 19 digs.
Christina DeMarco posted a match-best 14 kills and hit .619 (14-1-21) to lead Temple. She also tallied four service aces and nine digs, while Patricia Vernon compiled 11 kills. Yue Liu recorded 15 kills and four service aces and Maira Mogollon registered eight digs and also aided the offense with 41 assists.
"We played well in the first game, but then we lost track in the second," said Bucknell assistant coach Anna Allison. "However, to take something positive out of the loss, we kept our composure when we were down and played with controlled emotion."
The Bison will next travel to Hamilton, N.Y., this Friday, Oct. 6, to take on Colgate in a Patriot League contest, slated for 7 p.m.
