LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head women's rowing coach Stephen Kish announced Friday that Julie Quoss, a 2005 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, will join the Bison staff as an assistant coach for the 2006-07 season.
Quoss, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in art education, was a four-year member of the Badgers' rowing team and competed at the NCAA Championships as part of the varsity eight twice. Her duties at Bucknell will include assisting with the Bison novice program.
"I am looking forward to becoming an integral part of a program that is on the rise," said Quoss. "The prospect of building upon past successes, working with such a positive and invested athletic department and coaching staff, and leading the development of a strong novice team is very exciting for me. I can't wait to call Bucknell home."
A six-time member of the Dean's List, Quoss earned a number of individual honors during her tenure as a Badger. She was a three-time UW Scholar-Athlete and made the Big Ten All-Academic Team three times as well. A USRowing Collegiate Honor Roll nominee as a sophomore, Quoss earned CRCA All-Central Region First Team honors as a junior and followed that with a second-team citation the following year.
Active not only as a member of Wisconsin's team, Quoss rowed with the Camp Randall Rowing Club at the 2003 and 2005 USRowing National Championship Regatta and participated in the USRowing Pre-Elite Development Camp and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in 2004.
A veteran counselor at the UW Junior Rowing Camp, Quoss gained coaching experience by serving as the novice volunteer assistant at Wisconsin in 2004 and 2005. The Naperville, Ill., native was the Badgers' team manager in 2005-06 and also held the role of UW Boathouse Equipment Area Coordinator.
"We are very pleased to welcome Julie to the women's rowing staff," commented Kish, who recently completed his 10th year as head coach of the Bison. "I think she will be a great fit for the program with her strong rowing and academic backgrounds. She has been where we want to go, the NCAA Championships, and those experiences will add a lot to what she can bring to the student-athletes."
Bucknell sponsors 27 intercollegiate sports, including 14 for women, at the Division I level (I-AA football). It is a charter member of the Patriot League and has won the league's all-sports championship in 12 of the 16 years it has been contested. Bucknell led the nation with a 100 percent graduation rate in the 2003 survey and ranks fourth in Division I in producing Academic All-Americans.
