LEWISBURG, Pa. - The long-awaited Patriot League Women's Rowing Championship will finally arrive Sunday. The Bucknell women's rowing team will try to contend for the title at the second-ever championship, which will be held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
Picked fifth in the preseason poll, the Bison have surprised many by challenging defending champion Navy on a number of occasions this season. The varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight all posted wins over the Mids at the Murphy Cup last month. The second varsity eight and varsity four followed that up with wins at the Lake Wheeler Invitational three weeks ago, while the varsity eight was only two seconds behind Navy at the competitive San Diego Crew Classic.
At the first-ever Patriot League Championship last year, Bucknell placed fourth in the five-team field.
Sunday's competition begins at 8 a.m. with the varsity four. Ten minutes later the second varsity eight races takes place, while the varsity eight wraps up competition at 8:20 a.m.
The Bison will be idle for nearly two weeks following the Patriot League Championship before taking part in the Dad Vail Regatta May 12-13.
