Bucknell Women's Water Polo Earns Berth in Eastern Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Needing just one win to equal the program record of 23, the Bucknell women's water polo team earned the fifth seed in this weekend's Eastern Championship and will face fourth-seeded Indiana in its first game Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Providence, R.I., it was announced Tuesday.
The Bison earned an at-large berth to the event. The top two teams in the Northern, Southern and Western Championships landed automatic berths, while two teams were awarded at-large bids to round out the eight-team field. Bucknell (22-7) took third in last weekend's Southern Championships. The winner of the Eastern Championship earns one of the five automatic berths to the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 12-14 in Davis, Calif.
The top four teams at the Eastern Championship are all ranked in the latest CWPA Top-20 poll. No. 1 Hartwick (12), No. 2 Michigan (17), No. 3 Princeton (20) and No. 4 Indiana (16) each appear in the top-20. Bucknell, Maryland, host Brown and Harvard round out the eight-team field.
The Bison enter the Eastern Championship having won 10 of their last 12 games. If they defeat Indiana Saturday morning, they will face the winner of the Hartwick-Harvard game at 7 p.m. With a loss to the Hoosiers, they will face the loser of the Hartwick-Harvard contest at 4 p.m. Sunday's championship game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
