LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Kyle Walter (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) was named Baseball Player of the Week by the Patriot League office on Tuesday afternoon. The honor was the first of the season for the Bison centerfielder and the second of his career.
Walter helped the Orange and Blue to a 4-1 week as he hit .526 (10-for-19) with three runs scored, 10 RBI and a held a .789 slugging percentage. With a double in his second at-bat of game four against Holy Cross on Monday, Walter became the third player in Bucknell history to reach the 200 career hits plateau and just the ninth player in Patriot League history to reach the milestone. His two doubles in the game brought his career total to 44, matching the Bison career record set by Frank Fresconi in 2000.
In three of the five games, Walter had multiple-hit outings. He went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the team's 6-1 victory over Temple. Walter then hit 3-for-5 in game two against Holy Cross, a 9-0 win, with three RBI and a run scored, and in the final game against the Crusaders, was 4-for-4 with just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and had four RBI and two runs scored.
Bucknell (20-21, 10-6 Patriot League) returns to action on Saturday, April 29, when the team will begin a crucial four-game series against league foe Navy. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is set for a noon start at Depew Field.
