
Bucknell Men's Tennis Falls in a Tight 5-2 Battle to American

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's tennis team (6-13, 1-5 PL) played extremely well against one of the best teams in the Patriot League, American, but fell 5-2 on Friday evening on the Bucknell University tennis courts in Lewisburg, Pa. Senior captain Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) competed in his final Patriot League match with the Orange and Blue.
In doubles play, Bucknell won two of the three matches with the team of sophomore Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) and Salam, in the No. 1 position, defeating the pair of Nicolas Frayssinoux and Juancarlo Vazquez in a tough 9-8 (4) battle. In the No. 2 spot, freshmen Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) defeated Ben Weltman and Josh Levitz, 8-4.
In singles, Reibeisen collected the lone point for the Bison, easily defeating Frayssinoux, 6-4, 6-3. Salam played a strong match in the No. 2 spot, but fell 6-3, 7-6 (5) to Sebastien Proisy.
Sandburg and sophomore Ben Young (New Canaan,Conn./New Canaan) played well in the No. 3 and 5 spot, respectively, taking their matches to three sets, but just could not catch any breaks as Sandburg fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, with Young falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The men are scheduled to conclude their season on Tuesday, April 25, at 2 p.m., hosting Delaware.
