LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Lauren Litts (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Cassie Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) launched a three-run homer in the sixth to lead the Bucknell softball team to a 5-2 lead and salvage a split of a doubleheader Thursday. The Bison dropped the first game by a 1-0 score despite a three-hitter by Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley).
Bucknell (11-31), which won its first road game of the season in the nightcap, jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Litts hit her sixth home run of the season in the first inning. The round-tripper, which came with two outs, plated Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), who had reached on an error by the second baseman.
Siena (12-25) came back to tie the game up when Kelly Boyle doubled home a run in the third and hit a solo home run, her team-high seventh of the season, in the fifth.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Lloyd hit her first career home run to give Bucknell the 5-2 victory. Lauren Wible (Dover, Pa./Dover) and Kristin Frick (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) both singled ahead of Lloyd.
Meg Muirhead (Glendale, Calif./Flintridge Academy) retired the Saints in order in the bottom of the sixth, which ended up being the final inning due to darkness. Muirhead (4-9) pitched her second career complete game and allowed just four hits, two runs, one earned, two walks and struck out four. Muirhead was able to overcome four errors behind her.
Renee Clavette (0-4) went 6.0 innings and scattered seven Bucknell hits for Siena. She struck out one and did not walk a batter.
Litts and Frick each had two hits in game two.
In game one, Wiest (2-11) continued her string of tough-luck losses as she suffered her sixth loss of the season when allowing two runs or less. She allowed just three hits, but did walk four batters, as she notched her seventh complete game of the season.
Siena scored the only run of the game on a two-out double by Boyle in the first inning. Jamie Walker had drawn a one-out walk and move to second on a wild pitch in advance of scoring.
Bucknell registered six hits in the contest, and had at least one in every inning but the fourth and sixth, against Saints' starter Tara Campbell. Campbell (7-10) struck out six and allowed just the six hits as she tallied her fifth complete game of the season.
Erin Curatola (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) led the Bison with two hits. Litts was 1-for-3 in game one for a 3-for-6 showing in the doubleheader. Kris Devore (Washington, Pa./Trinity) registered two hits in the twinbill.
Bucknell returns home for a weekend Patriot League series with Holy Cross. First pitch both Saturday and Sunday is 12 p.m.
