LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second straight week, Bucknell's women's lacrosse team claimed two of the three Patriot League players of the week. This week, following one-sided victories over Wagner (13-5) and Lehigh (15-5), senior goalie Lizzy McDaniel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman attack Jackie Bodnar (Madison, N.J./Madison) was picked as the PL Rookie of the Week.
McDaniel, who also won the defensive player of the week award on March 26, has been red-hot of late. She made 13 saves in the victory over Wagner last Wednesday, and 10 more in Bucknell's crucial Patriot League win over Lehigh on Saturday. In that victory, which kept Bucknell's postseason hopes alive, McDaniel allowed only one goal over the game's first 27 minutes, while the Bison sprinted to a commanding 7-1 lead.
Over her last seven games, McDaniel has 91 saves and only 58 goals against for an outstanding .611 save percentage. On the season, she has upped her save percentage to .507, second-best in the Patriot League. She also ranks second in the league in saves per game at 10.85.
Bodnar has been quite a find for head coach Jess Spadafora this season. The rookie now ranks second on the team in goals (20) and points (25) after posting five goals and three assists last week. In the rout of Wagner Bodnar posted two goals, then she had a career-high six points on three goals and three assists in the victory over Lehigh. She also had three ground balls and four draw controls against the Mountain Hawks.
Bodnar ranks 17th in the Patriot League in scoring at 1.79 points per game.
Last week, Bucknell's Rachel Prowler was defensive player of the week and Sarah Collins was rookie of the week.
The Bison (5-9) have won three straight games and are currently tied for fourth in the Patriot League standings. Following a non-league game at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon, Bucknell hosts American on Saturday at noon in the regular-season finale.
