Bucknell Women's Tennis Falls to Lehigh in 4-3 Heartbreaker

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison swept doubles play to take an early lead, but just could not hang on in singles action, as Lehigh took four of the six matches to win the match, 4-3, on Thursday evening on Bucknell's tennis courts in Lewisburg, Pa. The loss to the Mountain Hawks moves Bucknell down to number three in the Patriot League standings.
In doubles, the Orange and Blue looked sharp as the pair of senior Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) dominated in the No. 1 spot over Alexis Jacobi and Starrine Foster, 8-5. In the No. 2 spot, senior Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and sophomore Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) were victorious over Ariela Cohen and Gwen Dwyer, 8-3.
The freshman duo of JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) and Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) took the No. 3 doubles match away from Lindsay Long and Allie Schwartz, 8-5.
In singles, Brown captured a victory in the No. 1 spot over Lehigh's Dwyer, 6-0, 6-3, while Mills secured the No. 2 point against Cohen.
Globerman battled in the No. 4 spot in three sets, but fell on the short end of 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 score.
Grossman's match in the No. 5, was also a heartbreaker as she fell 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Orange and Blue (6-10, 2-2 PL) will battle in a very important Colgate match on Saturday, April 15. The match is set to start at 10 a.m., on the Bucknell tennis courts.
