Bison Track & Field Anticipates Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. -
Much excitement is stirring amongst the Bucknell track and field team as the first home outdoor meet of the season, the "Bison Outdoor Classic" is drawing near. The meet, along with the "Distance Carnival" is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 14 and conclude on Saturday, April 15, at the Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.
Friday's action starts out with the heptathlon 100 meter-hurdles, at 3 p.m., followed by the decathlon 100-meter run. Competing in the heptathlon for the Orange and Blue are senior Danielle Todman (Scotch Plains, N.J./Bishop George Ahr), the reining bronze medalist from last season's Patriot League Championships, and newcomer to the multi-events, freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley). In the men's decathlon is junior Kyle McLaughlin (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville).
Friday's multi-event schedule will roll on until the heptathlon 200 and the decathlon 400 have concluded. Both multi-event categories are scheduled to conclude on Saturday, with the 800 as the last event for the heptathlon and the 1500 for the decathlon.
The field events will open on Friday with the women's hammer and the men's javelin at 4 p.m. Competing in the women's hammer for Bucknell are junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) and sophomore Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson). Grap is a recent ECAC Championship qualifier in the event (172 feet, 11 inches). In the men's javelin, junior Josh Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western), already an IC4A Championship qualifier (201-1 1/2), will be the favorite for the Bison.
The women's javelin will follow the men's, as sophomore Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) will look for her third first-place victory of the season.
On the track, the distance events will be the main focus on Friday, which will open with the women's 1500, followed by the men's event, with the rest of the "Distance Carnival" rolling on from there.
Bucknell is bringing junior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) to men's 1500, while juniors Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) will run in the women's event. In the 5000, junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and senior Kevin Fortkiewicz (Bloomfield,N.J./Bloomfield) will represent the men, while junior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) and senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) will battle on the women's side. Also scheduled are the men's and women's 3000 steeplechase and the 10,000.
Saturday opens with field events, starting with the men's hammer, followed by the women's shot put. In the hammer, senior Dan Frake (Northport, N.Y./Northport), already both an IC4A and NCAA Regional qualifier, will look for his first victory of the season, while Grap and Mockbee will battle in the shot.
Junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler) will battle in the women's pole vault, while sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) will see what he can do in the men's event. Both Buczko and Mante have already qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships this season.
Grap and Mockbee will also try to make an impact in the discus, while Frake and sophomore James Meyer (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pac. Palisades) will compete in the men's event.
Freshman Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) will be competing in the high jump for the Orange and Blue while Bricker competes in the triple jump, with junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) battling in the long jump.

Saturday's track events will kick off with the women's 4x100 relay, followed by the men's event, and will conclude with the women's, then men's, 4x400 relay.
The Bison bring the team of Buczko, sophomore Lesley Emons (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional), with juniors Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) and Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) to the women's 4x100, while the men bring sophomore Matt Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central), senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), junior Eric Guja (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman Kerry Boyle (Halzeton, Pa./Hazleton).
In the 800, Sawko and sophomore Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) will be representing the women, while Caroleo will be competing for the men.
Trentacoste and Buczko are the favorites for the women's 100 hurdles, while Johnson and senior Ryan Whitfield (LaGrange, Ga./LaGrange) are scheduled to run for the men.
Boyle will be competing in his strongest event, the 400, along with Corbetta and junior Matt Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School). Competing in the women's race will be freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield) and junior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga).
Forer, Emons, Corbetta, Boyle and Johnson will all try to make an impact in the 200, while Forer, Emons and Johnson will represent Bucknell in the 100.
Trentacoste will also be competing in her strongest event of the outdoor season, the 400 hurdles, while Boyle will run in the men's event.
Closing out the day will be the 4x400 team of Trentacoste, Allen, Hathaway and junior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) on the women's side, with Boyle, Corbetta, Guja and sophomore Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) on the men's side.
