LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time this season Bucknell sophomore Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Player of the Week. It is the fourth time a Bison has earned the honor this year.
Gins played in six of Bucknell's seven games during its trip to the West Coast and totaled 23 goals and eight assists. She netted at least two goals in every game and registered 15 over the final three contests of the trip, during which Bucknell went 6-1. Gins' best game was a six-goal, two-assist performance in a 10-8 overtime win over Whittier to conclude the trip. She tallied the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to tie her personal best for goals in a game. Gins also drew three ejections in that contest.
With her 23 goals and 31 points last week, Gins surpassed freshman Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) for the team lead in both categories. She now has a career-high 53 goals and 23 assists for a team-best 76 points. The point total is tied for 10th on Bucknell's single-season list and is just 17 behind Adrienne Schober's school record, while Gins' goal total is tied for the eighth-best in program history and is just 13 shy of Meg Blitzer's standard.
Adding her 53 goals to her freshman total of 48, Gins now stands at 101 in her career. That figure ranks eighth on the Bison career list and tops all current Bison. Her career point total of 137 is 10th on the career list, one spot behind teammate Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius).
Bucknell is idle this weekend, but returns to action next weekend at the ECAC Championship in College Park, Md.
