CLAREMONT, Calif. - Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) scored the game-winning goal, her fifth of the game, in the final minute to lead Bucknell past the fifth ranked team in Division III, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 7-6 Saturday evening at the Claremont Convergence. It was the second win of the day for the Bison over a top-five team in Division III after defeating fourth-ranked Occidental earlier in the day.
Gins, who drew to within two goals of Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./CmberlandValley) for the team lead with seven Saturday, now has 43 this season. She added one assist against Calremont-Mudd-Scripps, giving her six points in the game.
Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland), who had 10 saves in the opener, stopped a season-high 12 to go along with one assist and two steals.
It was a close game throughout as Bucknell (15-5) held a one-goal lead at the end of all four quarters. The Bison held that lead by converting 3 of 6 six-on-five opportunities.
In just her sixth start of the year, Jennifer Swoyer (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added the other two goals for the Bison, who had six different players register single assists in the contest.
Mallory Sullivan, who came off the bench for the first time this season, was solid on the defensive side of the pool with a team-high three steals.
Bucknell, which owns a three-game winning streak and has won four of its last five contests, continues play at the Claremont Convergence Sunday. The Bison take on No. 20 Cal Bakersfield at 2:45 p.m. and Whittier, the No. 3 team in Division III, at 7 p.m. Eastern.
