The "Bucknell Winter Classic," scheduled for Feb. 11, 2006, featuring 14 other schools such as Syracuse, Towson and Duquesne, will serve as the Bison track and field program's final home meet of the indoor season. The meet will kick off in the morning with field events, starting with the women's long jump at 10, while the running events are scheduled to start an hour later at 11, beginning with the distance medley relay.
This weekend, the Orange and Blue will look to add more athletes to the current list of eight ECAC and seven IC4A Championship qualifiers.
The most recent addition is junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell), who ran a IC4A qualifying time of 14 minutes, 47.7 seconds in the 5000-meter run, at the Akron Open (Feb. 4).
Also at the Open, freshman Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), who already earned a spot at the IC4A's in the 500, qualified in the 400 and broke the school record with a time of 48:42, while senior Kevin Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) earned a place in the mile (4:13.4). At a previous meet, Brown also secured a spot in the 1000 (2:28.49).
On the women's side, sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) recently qualified for the ECAC's in the mile with a time of 4:59.18 (Feb. 4), while junior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) also clinched a spot in the event with a time of 4:58.74.
Athletes with qualifying potential are senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), freshman Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and juniors John MacFeeters (Haddon Field, N.J./Large) and Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) in sprints and hurdles, as well junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and senior Danielle Todman (Scotch Plains, N.J./George Bishop Ahr) in the pentathlon events.
Following the "Classic," Bucknell will test all of its training as the squads will travel to Navy, in Annapolis, Md., to battle at the Patriot League Championships.
