LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field team competed at the Akron Open in Akron, Ohio, featuring competitors from Ohio State, Duquesne, Akron, Pittsburgh and many other schools, on Saturday, Feb. 4. Freshman Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) clocked in a 400-meter time of 48.42 seconds, and surpassed all other Bison runners in the history of the event and set a new school record.
Boyle's time also earned him a spot at the IC4A Championships, where he previously secured a spot in the 500.
In the men's mile, senior Kevin Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) finished in 4:13.4 (fourth overall) and qualified for the IC4A's, while junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) finished second in the 5000 with a time of 14:47.07 and also earned a spot at the Championships.
Freshman Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) won the "Blue Division" in the high jump with a leap of six feet, six inches and finished sixth overall.
Junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) finished eighth in the weight throw with a heave of 57-03.50, while senior Dan Frake (Northport, N.Y./Northport) threw a mark of 52-08.25 and finished ninth in the Bucknell record books (13th overall).

"The men keep getting better and better as the season progresses," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We are working hard and excited about the Patriot League Championships in two weeks."
On the women's side, junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) continues to improve in the weight throw, as she set her own school record higher with a heave of 64-09.25 (second overall). Earlier this season, Grap qualified for the ECAC Championships and hit the NCAA Provisional Mark.
Junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) won the pole vault with a leap of 12-9. Buczko also qualified for the ECAC's earlier this season and hit the NCAA Provisional Mark.
Sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) took fifth in the mile in 4:59.18, while junior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wylusing Valley) placed sixth and recorded a time of 4:58.74, for third and fourth in the Orange and Blue records books, respectively. Both times were also good enough to earn places at the ECAC Championships.
Junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) finished the 400 with a time of 58.52, eighth in the school's record books (10th overall) and recorded a time of 8.97 in the 60-hurdles, good enough for the number two spot in Bucknell's records.
In the 200, junior Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) clocked in a time of 25.93 (14th overall) and is currently ranked seventh in the Bison all-time top-10.

"Our ladies proved to be one of the better teams at this meet," said Donner. "It's great competing at bigger schools. Teams from the Mid-West now know exactly who we are."
Both of Bucknell's squads will return to action at the Bucknell Winter Classic, in Lewisburg, Pa., on Feb. 11, before competing at the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 18-19.
