Bucknell Invitational Schedule and Results
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) and Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored three goals apiece, but Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) was the story of the game as she tallied a record-tying five assists in the Bucknell women's water polo team's 10-3 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) Sunday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison completed their weekend at the Bucknell Invitational with a 3-1 record to improve to 9-2 this season.
Gins, who tied the Bucknell single-game record for assists held by Meredith Stevens, Adrienne Schober and Rowe, got off to a quick start with assists on each of the first two goals of the game for the Bison. After scoring a goal in the second quarter, Gins tallied assists on Bucknell's first three goals of the third period, which came within a three-minute span. With six points Sunday, Gins increased her season total to 36, more than halfway to her freshman total of 61.
Amanda Barto (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor), who registered a career-high two goals, and Amanda Nogic (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) rounded out the scoring for the Bison, who improved to 9-0 this season against unranked opponents.
Bucknell jumped out to a 6-0 lead before St. Francis finally got on the board in the closing minutes of the second quarter behind a goal from Elena Escalona. The Bison led by as many as eight goals (10-2) following Jensen's final tally in the closing seconds of the third quarter. The Terriers netted the only goal of the final quarter for the final seven-point margin.
Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) made three saves and played the first three quarters in goal for Bucknell. Katie Colgan (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) saw action in the fourth quarter and stopped two shots.
The Bison, who have gone 3-1 each of the last two weekends and outscored their opponents 34-16 this weekend, will travel to Princeton, N.J., to face Villanova and Princeton next Saturday, March 4.
