Bucknell Women's Track and Field Places 12 on All-Patriot League Teams

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's women's indoor track and field team had 12 individual representatives earn 2006 All-Patriot League honors, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Bison, the recent 2006 Patriot League Champions, picked up a league-high of 16 different honors between the dozen student-athletes, including 11 first-team and five second-team awards. All first-place finishers at the Championship meet (Feb. 17-19) received first-team honors, while the silver medal winners were placed on the second team.
Leading the way for the Orange and Blue on the first team was the 2006 Championship meet's Outstanding Track Athlete junior Christa Sawko (Montooursville, Pa./Montoursville) who led the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams to first-place finishes, with times of 3 minutes, 57.6 seconds and 9:04.95, respectively, and picked up an individual gold-medal in the 1000-meter run (2:53.9).
Junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) earned first-team honors in the weight throw (63 feet, 6 inches), and earned second-team honors in the shot (41-8). Grap was named the Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet and broke the Championship record in the weight. Freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) earned the Rookie of the Meet award and first-team honors in the high jump (5-5) and second-team honors in the long jump (17-8 3/4).
The 4x400 relay team also earned juniors Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra-Wheatfield) first-team honors, while junior Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Arean) and sophomores Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) also earned the honor in the 4x800.
Bricker also earned the honor in the 800 (2:14.72), while picking-up second-team recognition in the triple jump (37-1 1/4).
Junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) earned gold medal honors in the triple jump (38-3 1/2), while fellow classmate Melanie Buczko earned the honor in the pole vault, with a Championship record-breaking leap of 12-10.
In the pentathlon, junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) earned a second-place finish (3286 points), while Allen also earned second-team honors in the 500 (1:18.87).
The 2006 Patriot League Championship title gave Bucknell its fifth consecutive indoor crown.
On March 4-5, 2006, those who qualified for the ECAC Championships will travel to Boston, Mass., for their last chance to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.
