PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bucknell women's water polo team completed a 3-1 weekend at the Princeton Invitational with an 11-7 win over Marist Sunday morning at DeNunzio Pool. The Bison improved to 6-1 overall, marking the second-best start in program history behind last year's 11-1 start.
Unlike during Saturday's sweep of Wagner and Brown, which featured Bucknell trailing at halftime of both contests, the Bison did not need a comeback against the Red Foxes as they jumped out to a 3-1 first quarter lead and held a 4-2 advantage at halftime. Bucknell extended the lead to 8-4 at the end of three quarters.
Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led Bucknell with four goals and two assists, while Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) added three goals and a pair of assists as well. Rowe leads the team with 26 goals this season, while Jensen has a team-high 14 assists.
Susan Kingerski (Sugarland, Texas/Saint Agnes Academy), Megan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley), Kat Eckert (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and Mallory Sullivan (Tulare, Calif./Tulare Western) each scored one goal to round out the list of Bucknell scorers.
Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland), was called upon to make just three saves in goal, but also registered one steal, and helped out on the offensive end with a team-high three assists.
The Bison host the Bucknell Invitational next weekend at Kinney Natatorium. The three-day affair features a total of 20 games with Bucknell and George Washington kicking off competition Friday night at 8 p.m.
