LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior swingman Charles Lee (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday, just two days after scoring a career-high 24 points in a come-from-behind victory over Holy Cross.
Lee is the second-leading scorer (12.2 ppg) on a Bucknell team that entered the national rankings this week for the first time in the history of the program. Now 20-3 on the season and 11-0 in the Patriot League, the Bison are ranked 24th in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA TODAY polls.
Lee enjoyed one of the best games of his career on Saturday, and he reached a milestone to go with it. His 3-pointer with 7:17 to play at Holy Cross made him Bucknell's 32nd all-time 1,000-point scorer. He is also now the 15th player in school history to amass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. That trifecta was more than just trivial, however. It came in the middle of a furious Bison rally from a 15-point second-half deficit, as the Bison came back to post a 57-52 win and clinch home-court advantage for at least the first two rounds of the Patriot League Tournament.
Lee scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half, including two clinching free throws with 17 seconds to play. He went 10-for-10 from the line, 6-for-12 from the field and also added seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.
In Bucknell's other game last week, Lee tallied 15 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 74-57 home victory over American.
Among the Patriot League leaders, Lee ranks eighth in scoring, second in rebounding (5.8 rpg), third in steals (2.22 spg), eighth in assists (3.04 apg) and 10th in field-goal percentage (.439).
It is the second player of the week of Lee's career. The other came nearly two years ago to the day - Feb. 9, 2004.
Lee and the Bison return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Lafayette in a game televised on College Sports Television (CSTV).
