Bucknell Women's Water Polo Opens 2006 Season with 14-3 Win Over Siena

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored a team-high four goals to lead the Bucknell women's water polo team to a 14-3 victory over Siena in its 2006 season opener Saturday at the Maryland Invitational.
A six-goal second quarter helped catapult the Bison to the victory as they improved to 4-4 all-time in season openers. Bucknell held an 8-2 lead at halftime thanks to the outburst in the second quarter, and owned a 12-2 advantage at the end of three periods.
Rowe added one assist to go with her four goals to tie Jennifer Swoyer (Erie, Pa/McDowell) for the team high in points. Swoyer scored two goals and dished out three assists. Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) tallied three goals and one assist, while Kat Eckert (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) registered a pair of goals. Jessica Trimis (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley), co-captain Amanda Nogic (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and Jennifer Kerwin(Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) each score once.
Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) started, and played the first three quarters, in goal and made three saves while allowing a pair of goals. Katie Colgan (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) relieved her in the final quarter and registered four saves while yielding just one goal.
Bucknell played two more games Saturday, but both were exhibition contests that did not count as part of its record or statistics. The Bison defeated Cal State East Bay "B" 10-6 behind two goals each from Sadie Abuhoff (Cranbury, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) and Eckert, as well as nine saves from Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and seven from Kelsey Herrmann (San Mateo, Calif./San Mateo). The second exhibition contest was a 15-4 victory over Navy AC. Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius), Gins and Trimis tallied three goals apiece.
Bucknell plays host Maryland Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The Bison also face Cal State East Bay at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
