Bison Track & Field Completes Regular Season Action

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field teams completed their regular season competition today at the "Bucknell Winter Classic," at Gerhard Fieldhouse in Lewisburg, Pa., and added two more individuals and one relay team to the already lengthy list of ECAC/IC4A Championship Qualifiers.
Junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) clinched a spot at the ECAC's in the 55-meter hurdles and placed second on the Orange and Blue's top-10 list in the event with a time 8.27 seconds, good enough for an overall third-place finish. On the field end of the spectrum, junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) earned a spot in the long jump and won the event with a mark of 38 feet, 6 3/4 inches.
Qualifying for the men's IC4A's was the 4x400 relay team, comprised of freshman Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), freshman Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and junior Matt Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School). The team finished first overall (3:19.62) and sixth in the school record books.
Back on the women's side, junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten/Spencer-Van Etten) raised the bar on the Gerhard Fieldhouse record in the weight-throw with a heave of 63-04.00, topping her old throw of 62-6 1/2. Grap also won the shot-put with a toss of 43-10.50, while sophomore Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) took second in the shot (39-10 3/4) and third in the weight (49-5). Mockbee's weight-throw mark puts her 10th in the Bison records.
The women went 1-2-3 in the 1000, with sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) in first (2:59.79), junior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) in second (3:00.31) and senior Kerryann Branker (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) in the number three position (3:02.10).
In the pole vault, junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler) won the event with a leap of 12-11 1/2, while sophomore Ashley Curry (Lewiston, Pa./Lewistown Area) took second (10-11 3/4). Buczko also finished fifth in the 55-hurdles (8.41) and took the number six spot in the school records.
Juniors Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) went two and four in the 500, finishing in 1:16.74 and 1:17.04, respectively. Bricker's time is the seventh-best in school history. Freshman Gillian Nordquist (Clarkstown, Mich./Clarkstown) took third in the 3000 (10:31.91), while junior Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) took seventh in the 200 (25.76) and placed fourth in the Bucknell record books.
The women's 4x400 relay team took first with a time of 3:55.60, while sophomore Jennifer Grant (Erie, Pa./Villa Marie) took third in the 5000 (19:00.40).
Three of the women's Gerhard Fieldhouse records were broken by Rebecca Donaghue (unaatached), Virginia Johnson (unattached) and Lauren McNary of Howard. Donaghue broke the mile record (4:42.13), Johnson, the 55-hurdles record (7.57) while McNary set a new 400 mark (55.07).

For the men, junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), senior Dan Frake (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and sophomore James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pac. Palisades) took first, second and third in the weight throw with marks of 60-3 1/4, 50 and 49 1/4, respectively. Hoffman's throw bumps him up to the number two place in the Orange and Blue's top-10 list.
Junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) won the mile and set a personal-record time of 4:17.14.
In the 500, sophomore Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chilli) took third and clocked a time of 1:07.31.
Senior Kevin Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) took second in the 800 (1:56.15) and junior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) took third in the event (1:56.49).
Freshman Jordan Kirby (Canton, Pa./Canton) took second in the high jump with a personal-best leap of 6 3/4, as sophomore Mike Contino (Broomall, Pa./Episcopal Acad.) took third in the long jump (22-3 1/2).
In other field events, Frake placed fourth in the shot-put with a launch of 50-2, good enough for sixth in the school records, while sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) took third in the pole vault with a leap of 14-8 1/4.
The Bucknell track and field squads will return to action Feb. 17 at the Patriot League Championships, held in Annapolis, Md., at Navy. The League Championships are scheduled to continue through Feb. 18 and end on the 19th.
