LEWISBURG, Pa - Today, Bucknell cross country seniors Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) were selected to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Regional Team for their performances at the 2006 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional last weekend.
Forys copped an automatic bid for the 2006 NCAA National Championships after posting a fifth-place finish with a time of 30 minutes, 40 seconds, while leading the men's team to a 11th-place finish out of 25 squads at the Mid-Atlantic Regional. Forys has been the Bison men's top performer in every meet he has competed in this season. The senior posted a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championships earning him a spot on the All-Patriot League first team and a 73rd-place showing in 2006 NCAA Pre-National Championships.
Nastase crossed the plane in ninth place with a time of 21:00 at the Mid-Atlantic Regional last weekend. She led her team to its second straight fifth place finish out of 28 teams. For her performance, she earned an at-large bid for the championships. Nastase has been Bucknell's top finisher in five out of six meets this season. She was selected to the All-Patriot League first team after placing first overall at the Patriot League Championships. Nastase also took 66th at the NCAA Pre-Nationals last month.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Monday, November 20 with the women's 6k race beginning at noon followed by the men's 10k race at 1:15 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Championship course on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
