LEWISBURG, Pa - On Monday, Bucknell men's cross country runner senior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) was tabbed as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week after posting a fifth-place finish at the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Regional this past Saturday afternoon with a time of 30 minutes, 40 seconds, while earning a automatic bid for the 2006 NCAA National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
Forys, who has been the Bison's top finisher in every meet that he has competed in this year, led the men's team to a 11th-place finish out of 25 teams, improving on their 15th-place showing in last year's race. The Howell, N.J. native becomes the first runner since 2001 and the sixth individual runner in Bucknell history to qualify for the championships. Forys placed 73rd at the NCAA Pre-National Championships in October and posted a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championships.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held on the campus of Indiana State University on the LaVern Gibson Championship course on Nov. 20. The women's 6k race will begin at 12 p.m. while the men's 10k will start at 1:15 p.m.
