ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's rowing varsity four won the head race at the Head of the Genesee Sunday morning to open its fall season on a high note. The 3.1-mile event took place on the Genesee River and opened the busy day of racing.
The only Bison boat to row on Sunday was the varsity four, which included stroke-Kelly Henkler, 3-Page Kannor, 2-Caitlin Doolin, bow-Whittney Henry and coxswain-Katie Kessler. The boat registered a time of 18 minutes, 30.34 seconds to beat out a pair of crews from Syracuse, which took second and third.
The field included 14 teams, including Patriot League foe Colgate, which finished sixth, more than 45 seconds behind Bucknell.
"Today's performance was a good icebreaker to the season and will prepare us for the Head of the Charles later this month," commented Bucknell head coach Stephen Kish, who was the Patriot League Coach of the Year last spring.
The Bison varsity four will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Navy Day Regatta. The event will take place on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa., marking the first of no fewer than five times Bucknell will row there in 2006-07.
