Bucknell Men's And Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day Three Of Competition In The Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa - The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams competed in the final day of competition at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Bucknell Tennis Courts.
On the women's side, sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) and freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) notched second and third round victories to claim the Flight Two doubles title. The duo defeated Amanda Petruzzi and Danielle Rodriguez of Quinnipiac, 8-1, in the second round and dropped Liz Dibbs and Christine Burek of Connecticut, 8-5 in the third. The pair is now 8-2 on the fall season.
On the men's side, juniors Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) and Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) took down Connecticut's Joe Goldstein and Ben Schueler in the second round, 8-3 and defeated Irfan Shamasdin and Dave Jackson of UMBC, 9-8(5), in the third round of the Flight One doubles. The team of Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) earned a 3-0 (Default) victory over Quinnipiac's Andrew Chan and Tom Curran, and stifled Connecticut's Joey Michaels and Christian Malerba, 8-4, in the third round in Flight Two doubles. In Flight Three doubles, sophomore Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) won their second round match-up against UMBC's Mehrban Iranshad and Chris Meyers, 8-4.
The Bucknell men's tennis team will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn., while the women are idle until competing at the ITA Regionals Oct. 19-21.
