LEWISBURG, Pa. - After a history-making performance at the Bucknell Fall Classic last weekend, Bucknell senior Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain Academy) added another line to the record books by becoming the first Bison player to win Choice Hotels Big South Golfer of the Week honors. Schlang, who shared this week's award with Charleston Southern freshman Olivia Higgins, was the medalist at the Bucknell Fall Classic over the weekend, leading the Bison to their very first team championship in the nine-year history of the program.
Currently enjoying the best stretch of her career, Schlang shot 76-75, the latter score tying her week-old career best. She outlasted Samantha Milosh of Saint Francis (Pa.) by two shots. She is the second Bison to win an individual title. Jess Hetrich won the Bucknell Invitational in the spring of 2002.
Earlier this week Schlang was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week.
Schlang also carded a 75 at the Nittany Lion Invitational at the difficult Penn State Blue course a week earlier, when Bucknell finished in a best-ever sixth place, just one shot behind UNC Greensboro and Rollins for fourth. She has a team-best 78.7 scoring average this fall.
Bucknell has been an associate member of the Big South Conference since the 2002-03 season. Last spring the Bison finished fifth at the PUPS/PDPS Big South Championship, matching their best showing since joining the league.
Schlang and the Bison are back in action on Oct. 13-14 at the Rutgers Invitational.
