LEWISBURG, Pa - On Monday, senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) was selected as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend at the Patriot League cross country championships in Hamilton, N.Y. She won the individual title with a time of 23 minutes, six seconds, while helping the team post its second-straight team championship.
The senior became the third Bison women's runner to cop an individual title in Bucknell history after crossing the line in fifth place a season ago. Julie Sweitzer notched two-straight titles in 1997 and 1998, while Becki Marshall won three-straight titles from 1999-2001. The Bison also tallied their sixth Patriot League title, with five of them posted in the last eight years.
Leading up to the league championship, Nastase was Bucknell's top finisher in four of her five races, including a fifth-place finish at the Lock Haven Invitational, a 19th-place showing at the Paul Short Run, and a 66th-place finish at the NCAA Pre-National Championships.
The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Nov. 11, on the campus of Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa. The women will start at 11 a.m., while the men will follow at 12:30 p.m.
