LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior outside hitter Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) collected two weekly honors on Monday as she was named the Patriot League Volleyball Baden Player of the Week and the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. Henderson has previously been the recipient of each award once so far in her career, as she was named the Bison Athlete of the Week during her sophomore year and was honored as PL Player of the Week for the first time two weeks ago.
Last Friday evening, Henderson helped Bucknell to a 3-2 victory over Army, its first against the Black Knights since 2003, by posting her eighth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 10 digs, while also contributing four service aces.
This past Saturday, Henderson matched her career high with 23 kills against Holy Cross as the Bison defeated the Crusaders, 3-2. She added seven digs in the contest as well, bringing her averages over two matches last week to 1.70 digs, 4.50 kills and 0.50 service aces per game.
Three more members of the Bison were named to the Patriot League honorable mention list in recognition of their contributions to Bucknell's 2-0 week. Freshman Rachel Freeman (San Mateo, Calif./San Mateo) set a career high with 22 digs against Army and averaged 3.40 digs per game over the two matches. Senior Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) posted an average of 5.00 digs per game, including 20 versus the Black Knights and 30 against Holy Cross. Sophomore Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) matched a career high with 58 assists against Army, totaled a career-best 20 digs against the Crusaders and posted two double-doubles on the week.
The Bison will return to action this weekend, Oct. 27 and 28, when the team will play host to Lafayette on Friday and Lehigh on Saturday. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. starts in Davis Gym.
