Bucknell Concludes Day-Two of Bison Open

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field team, while some of its members were away at the Penn State National Invite, completed competition at the Bison Open on Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Gerhard Fieldhouse in Lewisburg, Pa. Junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) broke the Gerhard Fieldhouse record with a toss of 62 feet, 6 1/2 inches, and hit the NCAA Provisional Mark.
Grap set a new school record in the event, along with also placing second in the shot-put with a toss of 43-5 1/4.
Also on the women's side, freshman Christine Miller (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) finished second in the 1000-meters with a time of 3 minutes, 8.19 seconds, while fellow newcomer Jessica Hibbert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) finished third in the event with a time of 3:08.64.
Freshman Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) finished fourth in the mile (5:21.24), while senior Kerryann Branker (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) finished right behind Nordquist, with a time of 5:21.71 (fifth overall).
On the men's side, sophomore Matt Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central) clocked in a time of 7.30 in the 60 preliminaries, and placed sixth in the Bison record books.
Sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) finished first in the heptathlon's pole vault competition, with a jump of 14-3 1/4, while junior Robert Gradoville (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) took second with a mark of 13-7 1/4.
Sophomore Chris Roman (Nanticoke, Pa./Bishop Hoban) finished second in the 500 (1:07.97), while junior Chris Petillo (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) finished fifth in the 100 (2:42.33).
Sophomore Michael Gibney (Wading River, N.J./Shoreham Wading River) placed fourth in the 3000, with a personal best time of 8:54.62.
Sophomore Shota Ike (Darien, Conn./Darien) finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-9, good enough for fourth place overall.
"The home meet was a great opportunity for many of our athletes to gain experience," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had some very nice performances."
The Orange and Blue will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Akron Open, in Akron, Ohio.
