LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman forward Lauren Schober (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) of the Bucknell women's basketball team was named both the Patriot League Rookie of the Week and the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week Monday.
Schober accounted for 40 points and 16 rebounds in two games last week. She opened the week with a career-high 22 points on 7 of 18 shooting during Bucknell's 66-43 victory at American. That contest was just her second career start as she also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.
Schober reached double figures in points for the fourth straight game during Saturday's 67-63 overtime loss to perennial Patriot League power Holy Cross when she tallied a team-high 18 in 40 minutes of playing time. The 6-0 forward also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the team and record her first career double-double.
Despite averaging just over 23 minutes per game Schober is third on the Bison in scoring at 10.1 points per game. In her three starts she is averaging 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. The top 3-point shooter in the Patriot League at 45 percent, Schober has made 18-for-40 from behind the arc.
Schober earned the Patriot League Rookie of the Week award for the second time this season as a Bison won it for the third consecutive week, and fifth time in the last seven weeks. Classmates Corrine Keller (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and Amanda Brown (Richardson, Texas/L.V. Berkner), who was cited each of the last two weeks, have also been honored by the league this season. Schober also became the third women's basketball player to earn the Bison Athlete of the Week honor, following Brown and sophomore Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar).
Bucknell, which has won a program-record five straight road games, plays at Lehigh Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. The Bison then return home to Sojka Pavilion for four consecutive home games.
