ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's water polo team opened its 2005 season with hopes of pulling off an upset over second-ranked California, but the Bison fell to the Bears 11-2 in the first game for both teams at the season-opening Navy Invitational Saturday.
Mark Masterson, a junior transfer from UC-Irvine, and senior co-captain Aaron Platshon netted the only two goals for Bucknell.
Cal jumped out to a 6-1 halftime lead by scoring three goals in each of the first two quarters. The Bears tacked on three goals in the third quarter and two more in the fourth. The Bison goals came in the middle two quarters as they struggled by converting on just 1 of 4 six-on-five opportunities.
