LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell basketball standout Chris McNaughton, who hit the winning shot in the Bison's NCAA Tournament upset of Kansas last March, is currently playing for Team Germany at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey.
McNaughton is coming of the bench for Germany and is averaging 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds through five games of pool play. He is 15-for-29 from the field. The Germans are 4-1 so far, with their lone loss coming to the United States.
McNaughton totaled nine points and three rebounds in the team's opening-round 80-60 victory over Slovakia last Friday. On Saturday he was limited due to foul trouble and logged two points and two rebounds in a 64-60 win over Iran.
On Sunday, McNaughton collected eight points and eight rebounds in a strong showing against Team USA. Germany lost that contest 72-62. Sheldon Williams of Duke and Craig Smith of Boston College scored 20 points apiece for the U.S. team, which is coached by Villanova mentor and 1983 Bucknell graduate Jay Wright.
Germany rebounded from that loss with a 69-53 victory over the Czech Republic on Tuesday, backed by eight points and seven boards from McNaughton. On Wednesday it was another blowout victory, 115-69 over China, as McNaughton finished with four points and three rebounds.
