LEWISBURG, Pa. - Amy Calvo (Trenton, N.J./Lawrence), Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Jen Marsh (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) have been named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athletes of the Week for their gold-medal winning performance in the 4x800-meters at the ECAC Championships, last weekend in Princeton, N.J. The quartet combined for a time of 8:53.63, tying the school record in the event. They were also the first Bison to earn an ECAC gold medal in a track event. The ECAC event title was only the third in school history.
The 4x800 squad came out on top of some tough competition, including Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Yale. Calvo led off the win with a 2:14.9, and handed off to Bricker who completed her two laps in 2:14.5. Marsh then took the baton and split an impressive 2:12.9, before Sawko blew past the field with a sizzling 2:10.8 on the anchor leg. The Bison scored a total of 13 points on the weekend to finish 21st overall.
The same team was also victorious at the Patriot League Championships on May 6, racing to a conference title in 8:53.83. It was the sixth PL title in the event in school history, and the first since 2001. The four Bison were also big contributors individually to the team's second-consecutive conference title as Sawko earned a gold medal, winning the 800-meters and Marsh was the runner-up at 1,500-meters. Bricker's highest finish was a third-place showing in the triple jump while Calvo placed fourth in the 400-meters.
The Bison will take this weekend off before heading to the NCAA East Regional Championships on May 27-28, at Randall's Island, N.Y. Athletes who have met the regional standard or won an individual Patriot League title will be eligible for competition.
