Bison Track and Field Takes on Competition at Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bison track and field teams competed in one last tune-up before next weekend's Patriot League Championships, Saturday at the Lehigh Games in Bethlehem, Pa. Thomas Bennett was the only Bison to win an event, while Sarah VandenBroek, Kerryann Branker, Kat Allen, and Amanda Mockbee recorded second place finishes.
Elsewhere, Bison throwers Josh Kaehler and Dan Frake finished up action at the Penn Relays in Philadephia, Pa. Kaehler finished 10th in the College Men's Javelin competition with a heave of 184-0 (56.08m). The sophomore finished second out of three Patriot League entrants, with Army's Jason Smartt placing second overall with a mark of 198-2 (60.40m). Frake placed 23rd in the College Men's Hammer field with a toss of 170-2 (51.86m).
At Lehigh, VandenBroek took second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.82. Teammate Leslie Emons finished fourth in the event in 27.63. Also in the sprints, Chessa Forer notched a third place finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 13.40. Allen was the top finisher in the hurdles, clocking a time of 1:04.74 in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Catherine Trenacoste placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 16.07.
In the middle distances, Branker was the first Bison finisher in the 800-meters, finishing the race in 2:17.89. Offeibia Hanson-Hall followed in fourth place, running a time of 2:18.34. Jenny Stevens and Jen O'Connor recorded top five finishes in the 1,500-meters with Stevens taking second in 4:47.97, and O'Connor placing fifth in 4:49.04.
Mockbee was the runner-up in the discus with a mark of 131-8, just ahead of Angie McFarland in third with a toss of 127-10. McFarland also earned third place honors in the hammer, throwing a distance of 162-9. Elizabeth Pendleton was fifth in the event, throwing 153-1.
The Bison also notched two second place relay finishes, running 49.68 in the 4x100-meters and 4:06.10 in the 4x400-meters.
Bennett took top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 41-10. Tyler Palumbo followed in second with a jump of 41-8 ½. Also in the jumps, Mike Contino finished third in the long jump with a mark of 21-0 ¾. Bennett was just behind in fourth place with a leap of 20-9 ¼.
Jake Meyer was the highest place finisher in the throws, recording a fourth place showing in the hammer with a season-best toss of 144-11. Meyer notched seventh in the shot put with another season-best heave of 44-3 ½.
Sam Andrews was the highest finisher on the track, placing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 57.95. Teammate Ryan Whitfield followed in seventh in 58.19.
Next for the Bison is the Patriot League Championships on Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. The event is being hosted by Lafayette in Easton, Pa.
