Bucknell's Nada Curcic Named Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Year

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bison senior Nada Curcic (Belgrade, Serbia/3rd Belgrade) was named the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Year, announced by league offices on Tuesday. Curcic led Bucknell to a record-breaking season, in which the Bison broke the school record for wins with 17 and finished runner-up at the Patriot League tournament, the highest finish since Bucknell won the team title in 1994. Teammates Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and Tanya Sichko (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) were also recognized for their efforts this season with Brown claiming first-team honors and Sichko getting a second-team nod.

Curcic posted an impressive 19-2 dual match record this season, including an amazing 16-match win streak during the season. The senior also notched a 12-2 record in tournament for a combined record of 31-4 on the year. Curcic, a team captain, is Bucknell's all-time combined wins leader with 155 career victories. She also tops the Bison doubles charts with 76 wins and is ranked second in singles win with 79. This is the second PL nod for Curcic, who was also named to the all-league first team last season.
Brown also had a commendable 2005 campaign, posting a 14-6 dual meet record and a 20-8 overall mark. The junior played the majority of her matches at three singles, notching a 8-3 mark. Brown and Curcic proved to be unstoppable at one doubles for most of the season, boasting a 20-2 dual match record, winning 16-consecutive contests. Brown, the Co-Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2003, is currently ranked third on the Bucknell all-time combined wins list with 129. She is also rated second all-time in doubles wins with 63.

Sichko, also a team captain, claimed second-team honors, finishing the season at 22-10 overall, 16-4 in dual match play. She played most of her matches at four singles, recording an 8-1 mark. She also spent some time at three singles, notching a 6-2 record. The senior is the career leader in singles wins with 86. She is also third on the doubles list with 62 and second on the combined wins chart with 148.
The Bison posted the second-most all-league athletes with Patriot League champion Army earning six nominations. Bucknell finished the season at 17-5 overall, 4-1 in Patriot League play. The second-seed the PL tournament, The Bison handled Lehigh 4-1 in the first round of play, before falling to Army 4-0 in the PL final.
