Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Season Ends with 14-8 Loss at American

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rebecca Copeland scored five goals and Sarah Milewski added three goals and three assists to lead American to a 14-8 victory over Bucknell on Saturday, eliminating the Bison from postseason contention.
Bucknell, which got two goals each from Elizabeth Whipple and Emily Burman, ends its season with a record 4-12, 2-4 in Patriot League play. The Bison would have qualified for next week's Patriot League Tournament with a victory, instead American (6-9, 4-2) solidifies the No. 3 seed.
The Bison got off to a quick start in this one, taking a 2-1 lead on goals by Amy Lee and Burman. But the Eagles ended the half on a 6-1 run to take the lead for good, and after a spirited Bison comeback, American used a 7-1 surge to assume control of the contest.
Milewski scored the tying goal with 20:08 left in the first half, then Copeland scored twice in a four-minute span to make it 4-2. Whipple's unassisted tally at 11:54 of the half brought the Bison back within a goal, but Milewski, Chelsea Kapp and Copeland all scored in the final 10 minutes to make it 7-3 at the half.
Bucknell launched a furious rally to start the second half, scoring three times in the first 4:35 of the period to pull within 7-6. Whipple scored the first goal of the half, then the freshman assisted on a Katie Edge goal just 30 seconds later. Burman's goal at the 25:25 mark made it a one-goal game.
Like the first half, though, American used a big run of its own to take control. Milewski and Caithlin Gorman scored back-to-back to make it 9-6, and after Lauren Deitrich scored on a free position shot for the Bison, American piled up the next five goals in succession.
Freshman Mackenzie Duane, who scored her first collegiate goal on Wednesday against St. Bonaventure, tacked on another with 11 seconds left in the game.
American outshot the Bison 26-19 and won 15 of the 24 draws.
Bison goalie Lizzy McDaniel finished with seven saves, while American counterpart Kathleen Finnegan had nine.
Senior co-captain Andrea Paraud had one assist, and she finishes the season as Bucknell's leading scorer with 30 points on 17 goals and 13 assists. She also winds up an outstanding career with 102 career points.
Burman led the squad in goals with a career-high 23, while Edge hit the 20-goal mark for the second straight season. Deitrich, a freshman, led Bucknell with 16 caused turnovers and topped all field players with 28 ground balls.
