Bucknell Pounds Temple 15-4 for Non-League Win

AMBLER, Pa. - Bucknell scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Bison clobbered Temple, 15-4, on Tuesday in a non-league baseball game in Ambler, Pa. The Bison pounded the Temple staff for 17 hits, including two doubles and three triples.
Evan Weiss got the ball rolling with a lead off single to center field. Kyle Walter then smashed a triple to right center, plating Weiss for the first Bison score of the day. Walter would score himself on a sacrifice fly by teammate Brian Day.
Temple answered with a run in the bottom of the second, but Bucknell quickly added another run in the top of the third as Walter scored another run, this time on a single by Chris Brannan. Brannan led the Bison with three hits on the day.
Temple, now 8-21, would continue to hang around, making the score 4-2 with four innings completed. The Bison put the Owls away for good in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs. Matt Capece led of the inning with a triple to center field. Capece would score on a sacrifice fly by Walter. Jason Buursma slammed the second triple of the inning to score Day, who had reached on a walk. Chris Grandizio recorded an RBI as Buursma scored on his single to right center. Grandizio scored the final run of the inning as Evan Weiss walked with the bases loaded.
The Bison would keep the bats moving for the rest of the game, scoring three runs in each of the six and seventh innings and plating a single run in both the eight and ninth. Ryan Gryskevicz got the win to move to 1-1 on the season as the Bison improve to 9-22 on the year. Gryskevicz gave up five hits and two runs in six innings on the mound.
Capece, Walter, Day, Buursma and Matt Belmont each recorded two hits on the game. Brannan led the herd with three RBI to his credit, while Walter, Austin Turban, Day and Buursma added two RBI apiece.
The Bison will play again tomorrow as they travel to Emmitsburg, Md., to take on Mount St. Mary's. The first pitch of the single game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
