Bison Title Hopes Dashed as Army Wins 4-0 in Patriot League Women's Tennis Final

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bison women's tennis team fell short of a Patriot League title, as top seed Army ended Bucknell's title run with a 4-0 win, Sunday at West Point, N.Y. Bucknell's second place finish is the best showing since the Bison won the PL title in 1994.
The Black Knights quickly secured the win, guaranteeing the doubles point and promptly winning three singles matches. Bison Nada Curcic and Veronica Brown saw their 16-match win streak come to an end, losing to Army's Marissa Limsiaco and Amy Morgenstern, 8-4, at one doubles. Rheanna Gaskin and Daniella Shtemberg fell just short of a win at three doubles, dropping their match to Jennifer Segar and Amanda Paluch, 8-6. Chelsea Mills and Tanya Sichko trailed 5-7 in their two doubles match against Megan Noble and Christine Ong, when play was suspended.
Army wasted no time in singles play with Ong defeating Shtemberg at two singles, 6-0, 6-1. Morgenstern secured another Black Knight point besting Brown at two singles, 6-2, 6-1. Paluch also earned a point towards the win, upending Gaskin at five singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Curcic was locked in a battle when play ended, giving up the first set to Limsiaco, 6-2. Curcic, whose 16-match win streak in still in tact, was holding on to a slight 6-5 lead in the second set, when play ended. Chelsea Mills took the first set at six singles, topping Lyndsey Nott, 6-5, when action ended. Tanya Sichko was on the verge of a Bison win at four singles, leading Segar, 6-4, 5-4, when play concluded.
The Bison, now 15-4 on the season, won't put away the rackets just yet with three matches remaining on the 2005 schedule. Bucknell travels to Binghamton on Tuesday, April 19, for a 3 p.m. start time.
