LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell softball team picked up a pair of honors Monday as first baseman Lauren Wible was named the Patriot League Player of the Week and Heather Haskin was cited as the Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Bison post a 3-4 record in seven games last week.
Wible, a second-team All-Patriot League selection last year, hit a robust .591 last week as she was 13-for-22 and currently owns a seven-game hitting streak. The highlight of the week for the junior was a four-hit game during a 10-6 win over Northern Colorado last Wednesday. She drove in two of her six RBIs for the week during that game, starting a string of four consecutive games with at least one RBI.
Wible, who had three multiple-hit outings last week, was 9-for-10 during three games Wednesday. After defeating Northern Colorado, Bucknell faced Butler twice. In the first game, Wible was 3-for-4, while in the second she was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
A native of Dover, Pa., Wible is first on the team in hitting at .464 through Bucknell's first nine games, all in Florida. She is one of just two Bison to have hit home runs, smashing one to tie the game at 2-2 against Wisconsin-Green Bay. Wible leads the team in hits (13) and is tied for the lead in doubles (4).
Haskin, a freshman from Noblesville, Ind., tallied three multiple-hit games last week, and currently owns a four-game hitting streak. For the week, Haskin was 8-for-18 (.444) with two walks, two runs and two runs batted in.
Haskin, who was one of four Bison to start all seven games last week, also laid down a pair of sacrifice bunts. She also made just two errors on the left side of the infield while starting every game at third base.
