Bison Men Finish Sixth at Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team posted a total of 35 points to clinch a sixth place finish on Sunday at the Patriot League Indoor Championships hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The distance medley relay team of Wallace Campbell, Faizal Asumda, James Redmond and Kevin Brown nabbed the highest Bison finish on the day taking the silver medal in a time of 10:21.04.
Mike Mellas, the PL silver medalist in the heptathlon, earned a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 43-11 ¼. Teammate Thomas Bennett followed in sixth place with a mark of 43-10 ½.
On the track, Matt Corbetta made a fifth place showing in the 200-meters with a time of 23.13. Matt Bonelli also record a fifth place finish clocking a time of 51.70 in the 400-meters. The team of Bonelli, Corbetta, Brian Mooney and Koran Evans notched a sixth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:29.06. Mark Caroleo just missed a scoring finish placing seventh in the 1,000-meters in 2:34.70.
Navy won the meet with a total of 196 points followed by Army in second with a tally of 152. American, Lehigh and Lafayette rounded out the top five. The Bison will be in action again on March 5-6 at the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass. Bucknell athletes who have met the IC4A qualifying standards will be eligible to compete in the meet.
