Bison Track and Field Finishes Regular Season with Bucknell Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - With the Patriot League Championships less than a week away, the Bison track and field teams amassed a total of eight individual victories at the Bucknell Winter Classic, Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Marjorie Grap was the lone double-winner for the Bison taking the shot put and the 20-pound weight throw.
Grap's marks of 45-2 ½ in the shot put and 56-9 ½ in the weight led a dominant effort by the Bison in the throwing events. Angie McFarland followed behind Grap in second place in both throwing events with throws of 41-4 ¼ in the shot put and 52-2 ½ in the weight. The Bison also fielded the next two finishers in the weight with Liz Pendleton in third (47-8) and Gwen Soult in fourth (44-2 ½).
The Bison were also strong in the pole vault with Melanie Buczko and Angie Hall providing a one-two finish. Buczko was the victor with a leap of 12-5 ½ followed by Hall in second with a jump of 11-9 ¾. Tolu Fayanjuola also picked up a victory in the field taking the long jump with a mark of 18-2 ½.
On the track, Victoria Gilbert won the 800-meter run clocking a 2:19.81. Jen Marsh also notched a middle-distance victory taking the 1000-meters in an ECAC qualifying mark of 2:54.21. Christa Sawko also hit an ECAC standard running a 1:15.59 in the 500-meters, good for second place.
Mark Caroleo earned a victory for the Bison men winning the 1000 in 2:32.38. Matt Bonelli ran a time of 51.60 in the 400-meter for another Bison win. Eric Guja followed Bonelli in second place in the 400 with a time of 52.25. Mike Mellas was runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 44-0.

The Bison will begin the championship portion of the indoor season next weekend with the Patriot League Championships hosted by Lehigh University. Competition begins at 12 p.m. on Feb. 18 and concludes on Feb. 20.
