LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell director of athletics and recreation John Hardt announced today the hiring of Kaitlin Huber as assistant director of athletics for compliance and student affairs. A former captain of the University of Toledo swimming and diving team, Huber comes to Bucknell from the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, where she worked in the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Program.
A native of nearby Bloomsburg, Pa. (Central Columbia High School), Huber will direct Bucknell's compliance and rules education program for coaches, student-athletes, departmental staff, boosters and university offices, as well as coordinate and monitor the certification of student-athletes' eligibility and financial aid.
As the coordinator of student affairs, Huber will serve as the department's liaison with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and other university offices impacting student affairs. She will also oversee several other student-athlete programs, including the academic enhancement program and community outreach.
"We are very excited to have Kaitlin join the Bison Athletics staff," said Hardt. "Five years ago Bucknell invested in a full-time administrator to address the needs of our student-athletes, and to oversee the vital area of rules compliance. With this commitment, we believe that Bucknell has made tremendous strides in these important areas. Through her hard work at both Ohio State and the NCAA office, Kaitlin has gained valuable working knowledge and experience. As a former Division I student-athlete herself, Kaitlin will surely be an asset to Bucknell's student-athletes and coaches."
Huber graduated in 2002 with a bachelor of arts degree in business marketing from Toledo, where she earned four varsity letters as a member of the Rockets' swimming and diving team. She competed at the Mid-American Conference championships all four years, ranked on the Toledo top-10 chart in four different events, and was the recipient of the Ruth Hawkins Leadership Award in 2002.
She then went on to earn a master's degree in sport management from The Ohio State University this past June. While at Ohio State, Huber was a graduate assistant in the compliance office, where she maintained databases of NCAA interpretations, secondary violations and student-athlete employment and awards records. She also gained experience with the NCAA's Special Assistance Fund and Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund, helped monitor NCAA Clearinghouse reports and assisted with staff and student-athlete compliance education.
Since June, Huber has worked at the NCAA office as a governance intern, where she helped develop two documents - "Model SAAC Guidelines" and "Best Hiring Practices" - that may become models for all three NCAA divisions. She also designed and produced the 2005 Division II Year-in-Review publication and collaborated in the planning of the 2005 NCAA Convention, the 2005 Conference Intern Seminar and the 2005 National SAAC Conference.
Huber is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators. She has taken part in numerous community service functions in Indianapolis, including the NCAA Back to School Bash, the YES Clinic/Hoop City, Coburn Place Safe Haven for Women and Youthlinks of Indiana.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,550 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 11 of 14 years, including the last seven in a row.
Bucknell has finished in the top 10 nationally in the graduation rates of its student athletes in each year the NCAA has conducted such a survey. Three times in that span Bucknell ranked FIRST in the nation in graduation rates, including 2004. In addition, Bucknell ranks third in Division I in the total number of ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America selections, with 109 national honorees since 1970.
