LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior center Chris McNaughton (Leutershausen, Germany/Dientzenhofer Gymnasium) has been named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week after leading the Bucknell men's basketball team to victories over 17th-ranked Syracuse and Yale.
In the two contests McNaughton totaled 30 points and 16 rebounds, while connecting on 14 of 18 shots from the field.
He registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in Bucknell's stunning 74-69 victory over the Orange at the Carrier Dome last Tuesday. McNaughton made 7 of 11 shots from the field, and his 3-point play with 1:42 remaining helped the Bison open up a 65-60 lead.
In Saturday's 87-60 rout of Yale, McNaughton shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor and finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
For the season he is averaging 14.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, and he is shooting a crisp 76.9 percent (20-26) from the field.
McNaughton is the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year. He currently leads the PL in field-goal percentage and ranks third in rebounding, fourth in blocked shots and seventh in scoring.
Bucknell faces a very difficult three-game stretch coming up to close out the first semester. The Bison visit defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Niagara on Wednesday, then they travel to Chicago for a Saturday afternoon tilt against Big East newcomer DePaul. On Dec. 6, Bucknell hosts No. 4 Villanova at sold-out Sojka Pavilion.
