LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's basketball fans will have a great opportunity to get an early look at the 2005-06 version of the Bison this Friday evening, Oct. 28, when the team stages an Orange vs. Blue intrasquad scrimmage.
The scrimmage begins at 6:30 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion and is open to the public free of charge.
Coach Pat Flannery's Bucknell squad is looking to build on last season's Patriot League championship performance. The Bison finished 23-10, captured their first PL title, then defeated Kansas 64-63 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Of the 13 student-athletes on last season's roster, 12 return in 2005-06, including all five starters. The team's three newcomers - freshmen Justin Castleberry, Josh Linthicum and Jason Vegotsky - are all expected to see action on Friday.
Bucknell will face a live opponent for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 5, when Lock Haven visits Sojka Pavilion for an exhibition game at 7 p.m. That will also be a non-ticketed, free admission event. Also that night, the Bucknell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will join forces with the Bison Basketball program and the Union County Chapter of the Red Cross, to collect financial donations for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.
The Bison open the 2005-06 regular season at Rider on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. before returning to Sojka Pavilion for the home opener on Saturday, Nov. 26 against Yale at 7 p.m.
