WASHINGTON, D.C./BALTIMORE, Md. - Brad Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) scored a career high-tying five goals as No. 17 Bucknell defeated George Washington 11-9 in its first of two games Sunday. In the nightcap, Roslyn scored one more goal and Aaron Platshon (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) contributed five assists, but the Bison fell 9-8 to No. 20 Johns Hopkins on a goal by the Blue Jays with five seconds remaining. Bucknell, which will be among the top seeds at the Southern Championships in two weeks, completed its regular season with a 10-15 overall record and 6-4 in CWPA Southern Division play.
Roslyn, who had four goals during Saturday's 14-8 win over Salem International, scored the five goals on 12 shots against the Colonials, and attempted another eight shots in the loss to Johns Hopkins.
Bucknell scored at least two goals in every quarter against George Washington as six different Bison tallied goals in the tight game. Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin), who leads Bucknell with 37 goals this year, tallied two scores to join Roslyn as the only Bison with more than one goal against George Washington. He also registered two goals against Johns Hopkins.
Senior goalkeeper Trevor Mullins (Orinda, Calif./Palo Alto) made 10 saves in the opener and added 12 more in the nightcap to boost his season save total to 190.
Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) joined Masterson as the only Bucknell players with multiple goals against the Blue Jays as he tallied two, giving him 32 this year. Platshon, who did not score a goal in either game, served as a playmaker in the nightcap as he doled out five assists to bring his daily total to seven and his season tally to 28. That figure is two shy of his career high.
Bucknell, which defeated Johns Hopkins 7-5 at Kinney Natatorium in September, trailed the Blue Jays 5-3 at halftime and 6-4 entering the fourth quarter. However, the Bison scored four times in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 8-8. The Blue Jays then scored the game-winning goal with five seconds left on the clock.
The Bison, who will be idle next weekend, will return to action at the Southern Championships in Annapolis, Md., Oct. 28-30. The seedings for the 11-team tournament will be finalized this week as the regular season winds down.
