RENEWAL OF FINANCIAL AID
Prior to April 15th, the Office of Financial Aid (in consultation with the Department of Athletics) will prepare letters for student-athletes notifying them if they will continue to be recommended for a preferential aid award for the upcoming academic year. The Office of Financial Aid will send these letters to the identified student-athletes by May 1st and will remind them to properly re-apply for financial aid so that the actual amount of their eligibility can be determined and notification sent to them in a timely manner. If the aid is to be renewed, the level of the new award will be identified if proper financial determinations can be made at that time. If the grant has been canceled or reduced for the ensuing academic year, the procedures in this manual are to be followed.
NON-RENEWAL, REDUCTION, OR CANCELLATION OF FINANCIAL AID
Pursuant to NCAA Bylaw 15.3.5 and institutional policy on financial aid, if a student-athlete with a preferential financial aid award voluntarily withdraws from participation in his/her designated sport, the head coach may recommend to the Compliances Services Office that the student-athlete's preferential increment be removed from his/her award. The Office of Financial Aid should then inform the student-athlete, in writing, of the head coach's recommendation. In the same correspondence, the Office of Financial Aid will inform the student-athlete of the opportunity to appeal the decision of the reduction, cancellation or non-renewal of the preferential grant to the non-athletically employed members of the University's Compliance Committee. Upon receipt of such notification, the student-athlete has ten (10) days to request, in writing, an appeal hearing before the University's Compliance Committee. Any such hearing request should be sent to the Chair of the Compliance Committee who will be identified in the aforementioned correspondence from the Office of Financial Aid.
If the student-athlete does not appeal the head coach's recommendation, or if the appeal's committee upholds the head coach's recommendation, the Compliance Services Office should request to the Office of Financial Aid that the preferential increment be removed from the student-athlete's financial aid package. Normally, this removal would take place for the next award cycle.
