Bucknell Men Finish Third at Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's track and field team finished third with 75 points at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at West Point, N.Y., behind Army's 228 and Navy's 169 as the Black Knights continued a streak of winning the league outdoor meet that began in 1992.
After his silver medal in the long jump on Friday, Noel Powell picked up a bronze in the 100, finishing in 10.92 seconds and adding six points to Bucknell's total. Powell also finished fourth in the 200 in 21.59 seconds, while Ryan Newberger took sixth in 21.93 for five total points for Bucknell.
Bucknell's next points came from Greg Costello, who finished the 5K in a fourth-place 14:45.97, good for four points. That followed a silver medal in the 10K on Friday. John MacFeeters gave Bucknell one point with his sixth-place 15.96 finish in the 100-meter hurdles.
Two relay squads competed for the Bison on Saturday, picking up 12 points between them. The 4x100 team of Powell, Newberger, Justin Crane and Nick Novotny finished second in 41.76, the seventh-fastest time in Bucknell history and an IC4A-qualifying mark. The 4x400 team of Crane, Matt Bonelli, Matt Corbetta and Chris Edwards finished in 3:17.99, good for fourth place.
Drew Folk finished sixth in the high jump, leaping 6'4 ?" and grabbing one point, while Novotny and Thomas Bennett earned three points between them in the triple jump. Novotny finished fifth with a 44'8 ?" leap, with Bennett just behind in sixth with 44'8 ?".
Mike Mellas earned a silver medal in the decathlon, finishing the multi-event competition with 6,209 points.
Behind the service academies and Bucknell were American (69), Lafayette (66), Lehigh (43), Holy Cross (24) and Colgate (five). The Bucknell men will travel to James Madison next weekend to try and earn more IC4A qualifying marks for the competition held at New Haven, Conn., on May 13-16.
