LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Teri Schlang fired a career-best 78 Saturday to help Bucknell to a second-place standing after the first of two rounds of the Bucknell Spring Invitational at the chilly Bucknell University Golf Club.
Schlang shot 37 on the back nine and stands in a tie for second place with Long Island's Veronica Lopes, four shots back of leader Tarah Schloss of Saint Francis (Pa.). Those were the only three players to break 80, as it was a tough scoring day on a wet course with temperatures in the low 50s.
Bucknell shot 335 as a team on Saturday and trails first-round leader Saint Francis by 13 shots. LIU (349) is in third place, followed by Lehigh (355), Central Connecticut (359), Wagner (376), Monmouth (379), Kutztown (386) and McDaniel (410).
Celine Herbin posted her highest score of the spring season thus far with a first-round 81. Herbin salvaged a tough start with a back-nine 37. Jaime Hays finished with an 84, Meredith Kalman shot 92 and Stephanie Calhoun had 93 for the Bison.
Playing as an individual, Bucknell's Rachel Adika carded a career-best 87.
Play continues on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
