Bucknell Women's Tennis Evens Patriot League Record with 4-3 Win over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team evened its Patriot League record at 1-1 with a 4-3 win at Lafayette on Saturday afternoon, and raised its overall dual record to 11-1 on the year. Another record milestone was marked when junior Tanya Sichko recorded her 102nd victory at Bucknell, combining singles and doubles, which ties her with Steve Bomberger '99 for the most total wins by a men's or women's player in school history.
The Bison began the afternoon by taking the doubles point despite falling at first doubles. Nadezda Curcic and Samantha Berthod defeated Danielle Bailey and Susan King, 8-1 on court two, while Veronica Brown and Chelsea Mills knocked off Ali Kelley and Stephanie Rosman, 8-5 on court three. Lafayette's Chez Saricas and Monika Serrano beat Sichko and Rebecca Kral, 8-2 on court one.
Sichko's record-tying win came on court four where she defeated Lisa Fung-Kee-Fung, 6-2, 6-1. Curcic continued her undefeated singles streak on the spring with her 11th win, a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over King at second singles, while Rheanna Gaskin returned to the lineup to defeat Serrano, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on court three. Gaskin had been out with a foot problem for two matches, including the 5-2 loss at Colgate last weekend.
Lafayette's points came on court one, where Saricas defeated Brown, 6-3, 7-6(5), on court five, where Kelley beat Berthod, 6-2, 7-5, and on court six, where Rosman defeated Mills, 6-3, 6-2.
The match was the first in a five-day string for Bucknell, which will face another Patriot League foe on Sunday at American. Originally scheduled for 11 a.m., the match has been pushed back an hour to noon in hopes of warmer weather.
